If I am not wrong you are asking about 'Microsoft Lync Client' which works as Skype for Business.
You may operate devices against a Lync / Skype for Business server for trial purposes for up to 30 days without purchasing a license. Use of the Software is subject to the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement. Aug 22, 2017 It's Skype for Business Server. I checked everything that you said and everything seems to be in order since Android users do not have this problem. The certificate is the only thing that I might need to recheck because we use a certificate from StartComSSL, so that might be the problem. Verify you have the latest version of Skype. Check your security software or Firewall settings to make sure they aren't blocking Skype. Are you using a VPN? If you are connected to a VPN and the call is unable to connect, then disconnect from the VPN and try the call again. Are you using a proxy server?

If I am correct then it means that your Lync Server is not published that's why you are using VPN to log-in into Skype for Business to do meetings.
Whereas I know to get rid from VPN, the one and only option is to publish your Microsoft Lync Client then you would have no need to be on your office network via VPN and you will be able to log-in into Skype for Business for any meeting. I am using that and working fine.

Procedure
The Office 365 DNS setup must be completed. A valid Skype for Business license muste be assigned in the Office 365 Admin Portal and the latest version of Skype for Business should be installed.
- Make sure that your computer clock is set to the correct time because Skype uses a timestamp as part of the authentication process. If the time is more than 5 minutes off, you will not be able to sign-in and should correct the time and try to sign-in again.
- Next try the Office 365 Skype setup for manual configuration:
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right, Tools, then Options.
- Click Personal and the Advanced button.
- Enter sipdir.online.lync.com:443 as the Internal and External server under Manual configuration.
- Click OK twice and try to sign-in again.
